It’s light and fresh, but still girly and romantic with the coral crease-colour!

How to?
Well, start with a good eye primer. I love the “Urban Decay Primer Potion”, buy it here on my favourite beauty-webshop: www.beautybay.com

Then take a light and slightly shiny eyeshadow colour (something like M.A.C.’s Ricepaper) and apply it to the eyelid. Don’t forget to also apply a little bit of this colour in the inner eye-corner and under the eyebrow.

After that, use a coral or peachy pink matte (!) eyeshadow and use it to accentuate the crease. Blend everything together.

Blake uses a black eyeliner on the top and bottom lashline, and she -or her make-up artists - also applies it to the bottom waterline (this is the wet rim in between your lashes and your eyes).

Add some mascara, a peachy blush colour and a neutral colour lip gloss… and… tadaa! Fresh & fruity!

I wear this look quite often, and I find it to be the perfect solution for a daily not-to-heavy make-up if you feel like doing something extra.

New season, new trends, so here are my favorite trends for the summer!

Metallics:

To keep it classy, combine the metallic piece with a casual look!

Sporty:

Sportswear (in particular: sporty coats) are very hot this summer. Combine it with a high heel to make it more feminine!

Etnics:

Still a lot of etnic influences on the catwalk this season! Especially the Navajo-trend is still going strong.

Pastel green:

Mint green, pistachio, light turquoise… it has many names, but one thing is for sure: it is everywhere this spring / summer!

Retro:

Retro is making a comeback! Or.. wait a minute… it was never gone!
Vintage fabrics and shapes are still very trendy! I love it…

I’ve been receiving sooo many eyeshadow-related questions lately, and according to my website-statistics, a lot of you, readers, are referred to my website with the keywords ‘eyeshadow colours’ and ‘eye colours’.

That’s why I made this eyeshadow-colour wheel!

There are two easy ways to choose an eyeshadow colour:

- Match the colour with your eye colour

When I need a natural eyeshadow-look, I choose a colour that is close to my own eye colour in the colour wheel. I have brown eyes with a bit of green in it (as you can see in the website-header above), so I use a lot of chocolate browns, beiges, bronze and a soft olive green from time to time.
Here are some matchy suggestions for different eye colours:

Blue eyes / grey eyes -> blue, lavender, grey, mint green, turquoise, silver,…
Green eyes -> olive green, mint green, moss green, teal, chartreuse,…
Brown eyes -> bronze, chocolate brown, coral, warm beige, gold, eggplant,…

And some (runway make-up) examples:

- Choose a contrasting colour

An other option, is to pick a colour that is opposite of your eye colour in the colour wheel. That way, your own eye colour stands out more! Ideal for fashion-daredevils!
Some examples:

Blue eyes / grey eyes -> bronze, orange, salmon, honey-yellow,…
Green eyes -> pink, red, coral, burgundy, purple,…
Brown eyes -> blue, lavender, turquoise, silver, sage green,…

We haven’t seen much sun this summer, and to make things worse, fall is around the corner already…
But fashion-wise, I am in fact looking forward to it! Look at these beautiful warm colours:
a lot of nudes, ochre, oxblood, warm purple, and many other booze-colours (cognac, champagne, winered, …)! Mix these colours with some 70’s vibes and 50’s glamour, and I’m in love…

In addition to the previous post: some ideas and examples of the latest make-up trends, as seen on the runway! Of course, they are completely compatible to the main fashion trends.

I tried to find realistic examples, which are easy to wear in daily life.

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to attend a M.A.C-masterclass, here in Antwerp. A few of the 2011 make-up trends were discussed, explained and demonstrated on some very lovely models.
Most of my examples here, are from the M.A.C. Cosmetics archives (from the spring-summer 2011 runway shows).

1. Glossy, shiny, healthy, nude skin.
For this look, the skincare is really important. You can mix a little drop of M.A.C. strobe cream in your daily moisturizer to make your skin look radiant and glowing. Then, comb your eyebrows and apply a little bit of cream blush in a natural colour on the apples of your cheeks. After that, you only use concealer or a bit of foundation on the little spots or dark undereye circles. This is an ideal make-up for a day on the beach! Remember: no mascara is needed (or maybe a very tiny bit of brown waterproof mascara) to finish the look!

2. Electric colour accents.
Just choose a colour and a part of your face, and paint it. Bright yellow eyelids, oranje lips or fuchsia cheeks, … go for it! The colours must be véry intense and saturated, and preferably completely matte. How to do that? Just buy an opaque, matte lipstick, or use a colourful lippencil and colour your lips. Or use an eyepencil in a particular colour, and fixate it by patting on a matte eyeshadow on top of it in the same colour.

3. Pretty pastels.
These fairy-tale-pastels (soft lavender, icy blue or transparant pistachio,…) create a beautiful, romantic and feminine look, but be careful not to use them in an old-fashioned way! In stead of the traditional eyelid-colour, use them all over and around the eyes, or use them only in the eyecorners.

4. Brown & bronze eyes
Shimmery brown eyeliners, glossy copper eyelids,… Brown is the new black! Keep the lips very natural.
This trend is perfect for blue-eyed girls with a tan this summer!

Which one’s your favourite trend?

Héérlijke wintermode wacht ons dit najaar: misschien niet erg origineel, maar wel uiterst vrouwelijk, tijdloos en goed voor zowat elk figuur!

Fifties glamour
Denk aan donkerrode lippen, klokrokken en een benadrukte vrouwelijke taille.

Bont
Zowel echte als valse (en dus diervriendelijke) bont kan, en ook mouton retourné is het ‘zwarte schaap’ deze winter.

Mannelijk minimalisme
Neutrale kleuren, strakke pakken, rechte lijnen, kortom: eenvoudig ogend minimalisme dat in feite veel ingewikkelder geconstrueerd is dan het eruit ziet.

Roestrood
aka oxblood, is dé kleur deze winter.

Het is ein-de-lijk weer tijd voor een nieuw artikeltje modetrends!
In december en januari heb ik samengewerkt met styliste Christine Van Laer voor Marie-Claire. We shootten de mode- en accessoire-pagina’s voor de trends voor de lente - zomer 2010. Heerlijk om zo’n preview te krijgen en om die knappe Vuitton-shoes, Chanel-handtas en dat schattige Prada-rokje die ik op catwalk-beelden had bewonderd, eens van dichtbij te kunnen bekwijle- ahum- ik bedoel, bestuderen. Hier een overzichtje van de geslaagde en minder geslaagde trends voor de komende maanden:

Military style:
Het jasje voor deze zomer is een kort aanpassend jasje in een neutrale kleur (die bij je hele garderobe past) met sterke militaristische elementen. Draag er een dun tailleceintuurtje op, en klaar.
Draagbaarheidsfactor: 80%

Short shorts:
Ja hoor, wie lange slanke benen heeft met strakke bips en gladde huid (dus ongeveer… 1,5% van alle vrouwen?) MOET de komende lente- en zomermaanden een superkort shortje, of zeg maar onderbroekje aan. Je hoort het goed: MOET. Ze zijn het verschuldigd aan alle andere vrouwen die deze trend wel willen, maar niet kunnen dragen. Nàh.
Draagbaarheidsfactor: 100% mits perfecte benen. Hmmz… 20% dan maar.

Deep blue sea:
Diep nachtblauw is dé kleur van 2010. Een kleur die voor velen erg flatterend is, en buitengewoon luxueus overkomt.
Draagbaarheidsfactor: 100%

Flower-gardenparty:
Think… flowerpower, Laura Ashley en een elegant tuinfeestje op een zwoele zomeravond.
Draagbaarheidsfactor: 90%

Under-wear:
Deze trend hoeft niets te kosten. Grabbel ’s morgens in je ondergoedlade, en kies er je leukste setje uit. Maar let op: draag je bh bòven je kledij. Easy.
Oh, onder je kledij mag ook…. als je enkel een openvallend kostuumvestje of een transparante blouse draagt.
Draagbaarheidsfactor: 30%

Pretty prints:
De flashy grafische prints van vorige seizoenen zijn iets verfijnder geworden. In 2010 zijn prints subtieler van kleur, en kleiner van vorm.
Draagbaarheidsfactor: 80%

Clean cut:
Zuivere lijnen, sterke snit, sobere kleuren. Clean & gorgious. En vooral: tijdloos!
Draagbaarheidsfactor: 90%

Zwarte lippenstift en nagellak zijn niet meer voorbehouden voor goths dit seizoen.
Smudgy smokey eyes en zwarte nagellak zijn erg hip op een stoere rock-outfit, terwijl diezelfde zwarte nagels met zwarte lippen (glossy of mat) erg chic zijn voor de feestdagen, gecombineerd met een strak metallic jurkje en een zwarte oversized boyfriend-blazer bijvoorbeeld.

Het leven is aan de durvers…

Op verzoek: enkele mooie juwelen per type!

Wintertype:
Je staat goed met koele intense kleuren en juwelen met veel contrast. Diamant, zwarte onyx, dieprode robijn en helderblauwe lapis lazuli zijn mooie edelstenen voor jou. 

Zomertype:
Gedempte koele kleuren zijn ideaal voor jou, en dus romantische juwelen in ton-sur-ton-kleuren passen bij je zachte uitstraling. Voorbeelden zijn parels (zowel witte, grijze als roze), roze kwarts, bergkristal en zachtpaarse amethist.

Zomer-Wintertype:
Je hebt koele kleuren nodig die niet de flets zijn maar ook niet overheersen. Donkere amethist, rookkwarts, smaragd en robijn zijn ideaal.

Lentetype:
Warme heldere kleuren zijn een must voor jou. Contrasterende juwelen in snoepjeskleuren geven je een vrolijke uitstraling. Enkele voorbeelden: turquoise, heldere koraal, gele en groene jade.

Herfsttype:
Jij staat prachtig met diepe warme kleuren, dus opvallende juwelen in mos-, roest-en bronstinten zijn aan te raden. Donkere koraal, tijgeroog, mosagaat, en natuurlijke materialen zoals hout en leder passen perfect bij een herfsttype.

Herfst-lente:
De felle warme kleurtjes van de lente zijn te hevig voor jou, maar de diepste herfstkleuren zijn te donker. Jij staat mooi met contrasterende warme middenkleuren. Jaspis, groene en gele jade, carneool en natuurlijke materialen zijn hier goede voorbeelden van.

Nog een extra tip: Koele types staan het best met zilver, warme types met brons- en goudkleurige juwelen.
